Most of the army was made up of actual citizens instead of immigrants The rankings in the Confederate army were harder to achieve The south had better Cavalry possibly because of a greater emphasis upon that branch of arms and most people in the south grew up in a horse stage of life so most of them knew how to ride horses from an early age. |
